Yankton Track and Field claimed a state title in the boys’ medley relay yesterday on the opening day of the Class AA State Meet.
Austin Gobel, Connor Slaba, Carson Ness, and Dylan Payer made up the title-winning team. Gobel also qualified for the finals of the 100-meter dash, posting the 5th fastest time in the prelim.
For the Gazelles, Rozlyn Adamson, Josslyn Elwood, Alivia Dimmer, and Shae Rumsey took 6th in the girls’ 1600 medley. Dimmer, Elwood, and Adamson were joined by Bukrley Olson to qualify for the 400-meter relay finals, finishing 6th in the prelims.
Day two of the State Meet will begin at 9:00 AM at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls.
Yankton Bucks Baseball enters the Class A State Tournament as the #8 overall seed, and they will face #1 seeded Harrisburg today in round one.
Harrisburg finished the regular season with a 16 and 2 overall record, while the Bucks finished at 10 and 10. This will be the first matchup between the two teams this season.
First pitch from Sioux Falls Stadium is scheduled for 11:00 AM. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 10:30. Bryce Ladwig and Brayden Butler will be on the call.
Mount Marty’s Mason Schleis has earned All-American Honors thanks to his 5th place finish in the men’s decathlon at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Meet.
Schleis tallied 6,624 points en route to his 5th-place finish. Elsewhere for the Lancers, Marcus Jnofinn (Juh-no-Finn) qualified for the Men’s 100-meter final. He will compete in the 100 and 200-meter finals today. Edwin Nyamutswa (Nee-uh-moot-swa) will join him in the 200-meter final, while Luke Rettedal will compete in the shot put.
Events are scheduled to continue at noon in Marion, Indiana.
Ellia Homstad earned All-ESD Honors at the ESD Conference Meet on Thursday, finishing tied for 3rd individually with a 79.
Yankton shot a 380 as a team to finish 7th, only four strokes off of a top-5 finish. Elsewhere for the Gazelles, Sabrina Krajewski shot 97, Jordyn Cunningham ended at 101, Madison Ryken and Bailey Anderson each shot 103 and Olivia Woods finished at 119.
Next up for the Gazelles is the Brandon Valley Tournament on Tuesday, May 28th.
