Yankton Track athlete Dylan Payer played a part in three state title performances at the Class AA Championships in Sioux Falls last week, winning the boys’ 800 and 1600, finishing 2nd in the 3200, and anchoring the 1600 medley relay team to 1st place, alongside Austin Gobel, Connor Slaba, and Carson Ness.
The Bucks finished 6th as a team in the event while the Gazelles placed 14th. Top-8 finishers for Yankton are listed below.

- Austin Gobel was 4th in the boys’ 100-meter dash and 4th in the long jump.
- Shae Rumsey was 7th in the girls’ 400-meter run.
- The girls’ 1600 medley relay team of Rozlyn Adamson, Josslyn Elwood, Alivia Dimmer, and Shae Rumsey finished 6th.
- The boys’ 400-meter relay team of Evan Serck, Alex Swihart, Connor Slaba, and Austin Gobel finished 6th.
- The girls’ 400-meter relay team of Alivia Dimmer, Burkely Olson, Josslyn Elwood, and Rozlyn Adamson finished 6th.
- The girls’ 800-meter relay team of Burkely Olson, Josslyn Elwood, Rozlyn Adamson, and Shae Rumsey finished 7th.
Following the Class AA State Tournament, four Yankton Bucks have qualified for the upcoming Nike Nationals in Oregon.
Dylan Payer, Austin Gobel, Connor Slaba, and Carson Ness have qualified for the 1600-meter relay, as well as the sprint medley relay as a unit. Individually, Gobel and Slaba have qualified for the 100-meter dash, and Payer has qualified for the mile run.

The 2024 Nike Outdoor Nationals will take place from June 12th through 15th at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Yankton Bucks Baseball concluded their high school season last Friday, as they were eliminated from the State Tournament by Harrisburg, 7 to 1.
Lucas Kampshoff reached base three times for the Bucks, drawing two walks and notching a hit in the 6th inning. Yankton ended their season with a 13 and 14 overall record.
Yankton opens up their legion baseball season tonight with a road doubleheader in Huron. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 5:00 PM. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 4:30.
Mount Marty Men’s Track and Field finished 20th at the NAIA Outdoor National Meet last week, led by four top-8 finishes.
Marcus Jnofinn (Juh-no-Finn) led the way, taking 5th in the 100 and 200-meter dashes, setting a new school record in the 100 with a time of 10.25 seconds. Mason Schleis also took 5th in the decathlon, while Edwin Nyamutswa (Nee-uh-moot-swa) was 6th in the 200.
Yankton Gazelles Golf is in Brandon today for their final invitational before next week’s state meet. Tee time is scheduled for 10:00 AM.
South Central Baseball League Results (From This Weekend):
- Lesterville defeated Freeman 12 to 2. Tanner Van Driel had a grand slam for the Broncs.
- Yankton defeated Tabor 6 to 1. Samuel Kampshoff had two hits and two RBI to lead the team.
- Wynot swept Irene in their doubleheader, 11 to 1 in game one and 12 to 5 in game two. Jackson Sudbeck and Landon Weiseler got the wins on the mound, striking out a combined 18 batters over the two games.
Several Area athletes were able to medal at the Track and Field State Championships in Classes A and B over the weekend. Medalists are listed below, separated by school.

- Courtney Sees won the girls’ long jump for Class B.
- Al Gunter was 4th in the boys’ discus.
- Aziah Meyer was 5th in the boys’ long jump.
- Lila Vanderlei finished 5th in the girls’ discus and 7th in the shot put.
For Bon Homme (Class A):
- Chapin Cooper was 7th in the boys’ 110-meter hurdles.
For Gayville-Volin (Class B):
- Josie Westrum was 2nd in the girls’ triple jump, 5th in the 3200-meter run, and 8th in the 1600-meter run.
For Menno (Class B):
- Ashton Massey captured three state titles, winning the girls’ 100-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles, and long jump.
- Bryce Sattler was 4th in the boys’ 400-meter and 6th in the 800-meter.
- Hunter Yosten was 3rd in the boys’ shot put.
- Isaac Fergen was 3rd in the boys’ pole vault.
- Ellyana Ulmer finished 7th in the girls’ 1600-meter run.
- The boys’ 1600-meter medley team of Bryce Sattler, Isaac Fergen, Micah Goehring, and Izayah Ullmer finished 5th.
- The girls’ 3200-meter relay team of Ashton Massey, Ellyana Ulmer, Nora Robb, and Zoe Schaeffer finished 6th.

For Scotland (Class B):
- Trinity Bietz claimed a state title in the girl’s shot put and finished 7th in the discus.
- Olivia Binde took 4th in the girls’ pole vault and 5th in the javelin.
For Vermillion (Class A):
- Chandler Cleveland finished 8th in the girls’ javelin.
- Elijah Lara was 8th in the boys’ long jump.
- Jaymes Drake finished 8th in the girls’ 100-meter dash.
- The girls’ 3200-meter relay team of Lydia Anderson, Jenaya Cleveland, Eleanor Anderson, and Taeli Barta finished 3rd. The same group took 5th in the 1600-meter relay.
- The girls’ 400-meter relay team of Jaymes Drake, Josie Askew, Julise Shaw, and Marasia Warren finished 5th.
