Yankton Post 12 Legion Baseball opens up the Kyle Mueller Classic this morning in Yankton with a game against Norfolk.

Yankton Senior and Junior Legion teams will compete in the event, as will Norfolk, Renner, Crofton, and Hartington.

The first pitch between the Yankton Senior Legion and Norfolk is scheduled for 9:30 AM at Riverside Park. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 9:00. Bryce Ladwig and Brayden Butler will be on the call.

Yankton Gazelles Golf will compete in the Class AA State Competition on Monday, hosted at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club in Yankton.

Ellia Homstad, Bailey Anderson, Sabrina Krajewski, and Madison Ryken will represent the Gazelles during the meet.

Tee time is currently scheduled for 9:00 AM on Monday.

The University of South Dakota announced their 2024 Henry Heider Coyote Sports Hall of Fame Class yesterday, with 6 individuals and the 2008 Women’s Track and Field team being recognized.

Inducted this year will be Bethany (Buell) Firsick, Tom Compton, Ramsey (Kavan) Fitzsimmons, Amber (Kobus) Robinson, longtime public address announcer Greg Merrigan, and former cross country coach Rob Kinnunen, who will be honored posthumously.

The 2024 Athletic Hall of Fame class will be formally inducted on September 27th in an on-campus ceremony in Vermillion.

South Central League Results:

  • Tabor topped Menno 11 to 2. Riley Rothschadl went 4-for-5 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
  • Westerville defeated Wynot 7 to 1. Andy Dollerschell tallied 3 RBIs in the win, with Ethan Wishon adding 2 hits and 2 RBIs.

The Scotland/Menno Trappers defeated Gayville-Volin yesterday in the opening round of the Class B State Softball Tournament, 12 to 8.

Olivia Binde went 5-for-5 with 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored in the win for the Trappers. The Raiders were led by Ayla Dimmer, who went 3-for-4 with a triple in the loss.

Scotland/Menno will take on top-seeded Castlewood today at 3:00 PM in the semifinals. Gayville-Volin falls into the consolation bracket and will face #8 seed Elkton-Lake Benton at 10:00 AM.

  • #3 Sioux Falls Washington edged out Rapid City Stevens, 8 to 7.
  • #4 Sioux Falls Jefferson outlasted #5 Brandon Valley 5 to 4.

  • #1 West Central defeated #8 Elk Point-Jefferson 15 to 0.
  • #2 Dell Rapids topped #7 Dakota Valley 11 to 0.
  • #3 Tea Area shutout #6 Beresford 16 to 0.
  • #4 Madison beat #5 Tri-Valley 7 to 2.
