Yankton Gazelles Golf finished 8th as a team in the Class AA State Tournament, led by a 12th-place individual finish from Ellia Homstad.
Homstad earned All-State honors for her efforts. Elsewhere for the Gazelles, Sabrina Krajewski finished 28th, Madison Ryken took 48th, and Bailey Anderson was 60th.
Watertown took the team title, finishing 3 strokes ahead of Mitchell over the two days. Mitchell’s Allison Meyerink won the individual championship by a single stroke over Aberdeen Central’s Olivia Braun.
Yankton Post 12 Legion Baseball split their doubleheader with Watertown yesterday, losing game one 8 to 1 before winning game two 1 to 0 in extra innings.
Sam Gokie (Go-key) hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 9th inning to claim the win for Post 12, driving in Lucas Kampshoff for the winning run. Mark Kathol pitched all 9 innings in the win, ending with four strikeouts in the complete game shutout.
Next up for Yankton is the Lewis & Clark Classic, which begins on Friday at Riverside Field.
Former University of South Dakota Assistant and Interim Head Women’s Basketball Coach Mike Jewett has joined Creighton as an assistant coach.
Jewett spent this past season at USD, before that having served on the staff at South Dakota State for nine years, including eight as an associate head coach.
Jewett also has seven years of head coaching experience at Southwest Minnesota State and Franklin College.
The Vermillion Tanagers finished 2nd in the Class A Girls Golf State Tournament, led by top-15 individual finishes from Ronnie Wilharm and Taylor Reuvers.
Wilharm tied for 5th in the event, with Reuvers tying for 12th. The Tanagers had two more top-25 finishers, with Stephanie Carr tying for 16th, and Georgia Johnson tying for 20th.
Sioux Falls Christian took the team title in the event, with St. Thomas More’s Kaitlin Strain winning the individual championship.
The Yankton Bucks Basketball Camp took place last week, with several competitions taking play at a variety of age levels. The winners of each event are listed below, separated by age level.
5th-8th Grade:
- Landon Markel – free throw champion (7th & 8th division)
- Brayden Scott – hot shot and 1 on 1 championship (7th & 8th division)
- Bennett Maibaum – free throw champion (5th & 6th division)
- Cooper Haynes – 1 on 1 and hot shot champion (5th & 6th division)
3rd/4th Grade:
- Easton Prouty – 1-on-1 champion
- Trace Teichroew – hot shot champion
- Mack Kindle – free throw champion.
1st/2nd Grade:
- Jasper Youmans – sharks and minnows champion
- Elijah Randle – sharks and minnows champion
- Gus Kindle – dribble knockout champion (2x)
