Yankton High School Golf Coach Brett Sime has been named a finalist for the 2024 National High School Athletic Coaches Association (NHSACA) National Coach of the Year for Golf.

Sime was nominated for the honor by the South Dakota High School Coaches Association. The nominees and finalists are evaluated by experts in the field of coaching using a sport-specific rubrics to assign points in each category.

Sime and the seven other finalists from across the country will be honored during The National Coach of the Year Awards Banquet during the NHSACA’s National Convention in Bismarck, North Dakota on June 26th.

Yankton Post 12 Legion Baseball went 2 and 0 yesterday in their triangular against Vermillion and Tabor.

Yankton defeated Vermillion in game one 5 to 0. Kael Garry got the win on the mound with 6 strikeouts over 5 shutout innings. Easton Feser and Kaden Hughes recorded Yankton’s only hits in the win, with Hughes adding 2 RBI.

Yankton defeated Tabor 15 to 0 in 5 innings to end the day, led by Lucas Kampshoff, who went 4 for 4 at the plate with 3 runs scored and 5 RBI, starting with an RBI triple in the 1st inning. 

Frankie Intveld got the win on the mound, striking out 6 batters during the complete game shutout.

Tabor defeated Vermillion 3 to 2 in 10 innings in the 3rd game of the day. Next up for Yankton is the Dakota Classic, beginning tomorrow and running through Monday in Sioux Falls.

Yankon athletes Dylan Payer, Austin Gobel, Connor Slaba, and Carson Ness will compete in their first event of the Nike Outdoor Track and Field Nationals today in Eugene, Oregon.

The foursome will compete in the sprint medley relay today at noon Pacific, 2:00 PM central time at Hayward Field. 

Payer, Gobel, Slaba, and Ness will also compete in the 4 by 400-meter relay on Saturday. Individually, Payer will compete in the mile run, on Saturday.

The South Dakota High School Athletic Association has approved Name, Image, and Likeness to be used for high school athletes.

The SDHSAA approved NIL at their Board of Directors Meeting yesterday, as the vote passed nearly unanimously, 115 to 7.

NIL will allow athletes to profit from their name, image, and likeness. NIL will go into effect officially on July 1st.
