An apartment complex that was evacuated last year has been demolished after being deemed unsalvageable.
Gregg Homstad, the City of Yankton’s Building Official, says that the apartment complex at 500 Douglas Avenue was evacuated last June after a masonry failure was discovered in the northeast corner of the building.
Homstad says that the future of the lot at 500 Douglas is up to the owner, not the city.
Homstad says that they hope to have the debris in the area cleared out by the end of the week.
