Renner Post 307 claimed their 3rd Class A Legion Baseball State Championship on Saturday, defeating Brookings 8 to 0.

Brody Jacobson led Renner at the plate, finishing 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Renner’s Sullivan Schlimgen was named the tournament’s most outstanding player.

Crofton’s Eric Baily edged out Yankton’s Lane Sawatzke in a playoff to win the amateur championship at this weekend’s 51st annual Hillcrest Invitational Pro-Am.

Both Baily and Sawatzke finished at two-over for the tournament, with Baily scoring a birdie on the playoff hole.

In the pro tournament, Franklin Huang took home the top spot, finishing at 21-under par and earning $25,000 as the winner. It was Huang’s first win on the Dakotas Tour this season.

Phil Steele has named four members of the South Dakota Coyotes Football program to his preseason FCS All-American list, led by 1st-team honoree Will Leyland.

The Yankton Tappers open up play in the Class A Amateur Baseball State Tournament on Friday, taking on the Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels.

First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 PM on Friday. The opening rounds will be played in Brookings this weekend, with the final rounds held in Mitchell from August 16th through 18th.

The Tabor Bluebirds are the 2024 District 6B Amateur Baseball Tournament Champions, defeating Lesterville 6 to 3 in the final.

Zach Sutera and Riley Rothschadl (Ro-shay-dull) both notched a home run for Tabor. Landon Bares (Bar-es) earned the win on the mound, allowing one run over five innings.

Tabor will represent District 6B in the State Tournament. Also representing the district will be Lesterville as Rep #1, Crofton as Rep #2, and Menno as Rep #3.
