Yankton Post 12 had two squad members named to the 2024 Class A Legion Baseball All-State team, with Lucas Kampshoff on the 1st Team and Tate Beste on the 2nd Team.

Kampshoff, a future Mount Marty Lancer, finished the Legion season leading the team in batting average, runs scored, doubles, and triples. Kampshoff was also tied for 1st in home runs and 2nd in RBIs.

Beste tallied a .272 average at the plate with 21 RBIs, 31 runs, and 10 steals. Beste maintained a 4 and 0 record on the mound with a 1.33 ERA and 15 strikeouts over 26 1/3rd innings.

The GPAC Men’s and Women’s Soccer preseason polls were released on Friday. The Mount Marty Lancers were projected 10th on the men’s side and 12th on the women’s side. The full polls for Men’s and Women’s Soccer are available below.

The 2024 fall athletics season for Yankton High School begins this week. A Fall Sports Kickoff is scheduled for Thursday, August 15th, to open the year. Season Openers for YHS varsity athletics are listed below.

YHS Fall Athletics Season Openers:

Bucks/Gazelles Soccer:

  • Bucks/Gazelles doubleheader on Friday, August 16th at Rapid City Stevens. Bucks play at 5:00 with the Gazelles to follow.

Gazelles Tennis:

  • Friday, August 16th at Pierre. Yankton will face Pierre and Rapid City Central in the event.

Bucks Golf:

  • Monday, August 19th, day one of the Warrior/Lynx Invite at Brandon Golf Course. Day two on August 20th at Sioux Falls Willow Run Golf Course.

Gazelles Volleyball:

  • Tuesday, August 27th at O’Gorman.

Bucks Football:

Friday, August 30th vs Huron at Crane-Youngworth Field.

The Yankton Tappers survived the first weekend of the Class A Amateur Baseball State Tournament, defeating the Black Hills A’s 13 to 6.

Joe Gokie led the Tappers, finishing 3 for 5 at the plate with a home run and three RBI. Gokie was joined by current Mount Marty teammate Shugo Kondo who added three hits of his own.

The win on Saturday advances the Tappers to next weekend in Mitchell where they will play on Friday at 1:00 PM. Yankton is 1 and 1 in the tournament, with their loss coming to the Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels, 5 to 2.

All four of the South Central League representatives at the Class B Amateur Baseball State Tournament have been eliminated after the opening weekend.

  • Tabor fell to Castlewood 7 to 5 in round one. The Bluebirds end the year as the South Central League runners-up and the District 6B Tournament Champions.
  • Menno lost to Humboldt/Hartford 4 to 0 in round one. Menno finishes their 2024 campaign with a 7 and 13 overall record.
  • Lesterville was eliminated by Canova 11 to 0. Lesterville ends their season with 10 wins, 9 losses, and 1 draw.
  • Crofton was defeated by Four Corners 13 to 10 in round one. Crofton was 3rd in the South Central League and the #2 representative from District 6B.
