Two people were arrested after a robbery attempt at the Vermillion Casey’s on Jefferson Street earlier this week.
Vermillion Police Chief, Crystal Brady, says that the Vermillion Police Department responded to a report of a theft of a large sum of money from Casey’s on Monday.
Brady says that the suspect, Harold Carter, 27, from Memphis, TN, fled from the store and was found hiding near a residence in the 1200 block of E Cherry Street a short time later and then fled from officers on foot.
Brady says that Carter was apprehended before escaping again from a patrol vehicle.
Carter ran into Cherry Street, where he was struck by a vehicle and was taken into custody.
Carter’s girlfriend, Audrey Taylor, 28, also from Memphis, assaulted the driver of the vehicle.
Carter was charged with grand theft, escape from custody, and two counts of possession of stolen handguns as grand theft. Taylor was charged with simple assault. Carter is being held in the Clay County Jail. Taylor has been released on bond.
