The Vermillion School District hosted a ribbon cutting yesterday for their brand-new elementary school building.
VSD Superintendent Dr. Damon Alvey says that the plan for the new building was first talked about years ago, but the ball truly got rolling at the turn of the decade.
The new elementary school consolidates the old Austin and Jolley elementary buildings and is directly connected to the Vermillion Middle School.
Dr. Alvey says that bringing all students from preschool through 8th grade under the same roof helps both the students and staff.
Dr. Alvey adds that families also benefit from no longer needing to stop at multiple school buildings for their children and that bus routes are more streamlined.
The new Vermillion Elementary School had its first day of instruction on August 21st.
