Yankton Gazelles Soccer has earned the opportunity to host Brandon Valley in the opening round of the Class AA playoffs tomorrow night.

The Gazelles enter the postseason as the #7 seed with an 8-4-2 overall record. Brandon Valley is the #10 seed. The Gazelles fell to the Lynx in the regular season, 1-0 in Brandon.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM tomorrow night. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 6:30. Brayden Butler will be on the call.

Mount Marty Football claimed the inaugural Catholic Cup on Saturday with a 36-21 win over Briar Cliff, setting a new program record for wins in the process.

The Lancers led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter, but a pick-six early in the 2nd by Josiah Gaetani (Guy-tawn-ee) opened the floodgates for MMU.

Offensively, the Lancers were led by Malachy Harts, who rushed for 128 yards and 2 touchdowns, averaging over 5 yards per carry.

The Lancers, now 4-2 on the year, return home for a Friday night game this week, hosting Dordt at Crane-Youngworth Field.

Yankton Bucks Football picked up a 35-0 shutout victory over Sturgis on Friday to cap off homecoming week at Yankton High School.

Quarterback Easton Nelson had a hand in every score for the Bucks with two touchdowns through the air and three more on the ground. Nelson’s final score came with just over 9 minutes to play, giving the Bucks their 35-0 final scoreline.

Also for the Bucks, receiver Carson Ness and running back Evan Serck both recorded a touchdown reception. 

Yankton is on the road on Friday to take on the Brookings Bobcats at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium.

Mount Marty Volleyball took home a 3-0 sweep over Briar Cliff on Saturday, moving to 12-7 overall, 4-4 in GPAC play.

Julia Weber led MMU with 18 kills in the win. Tevan Erickson recorded 35 assists and 3 service aces.

The Lancers return home tomorrow night to host Northwestern. First serve is scheduled for 7:30 PM.

Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s Soccer were swept on Saturday by the Briar Cliff Chargers in a GPAC doubleheader.

The Lancer Men fell 5-0 while the Lancer Women were defeated 9-0 in Sioux City. The Lancers return home on Wednesday to host Hastings for a doubleheader at Crane-Youngworth Field.

Mount Marty Cross Country athletes Logan Ferrari and Joseph Cross each posted top-5 finishes in the Briar Cliff Invitational over the weekend.

Ferrari took home 3rd place with a time of 25:31.49, while Cross took 5th less than a minute behind. Former Lancer Brian Santiago placed 4th, competing unattached in the event.

The Lancer Men finished 5th as a team in the event. Next up for MMU is their home invitational on October 24th.

Yankton Bucks Golf is in Watertown today to open up the 2024 Class AA State Tournament, hosted at Watertown Municipal Cattail Golf Course.

Today is day one of the two-day event. Tee time is scheduled for 9:00 AM.

Yankton Competitive Cheer and Dance will compete in Sioux Falls today. Events will be held at the Sanford Pentagon, beginning at 5:00 PM.

South Dakota Coyotes Football took home a statement victory on Saturday, defeating Murray State 59-0.

Travis Theis (Tice) ran for 132 yards and 2 touchdowns, with Charles Pierre Jr. adding 3 more rushing scores for the Coyotes.

Defensively, the Coyotes kept their opponent out of the endzone for the 3rd time this season, as USD has yet to allow more than 13 points to non-FBS opponents.

USD is at home this week to host UNI for their Dakota Days game.

South Dakota State Football picked up their 4th straight win on Saturday, defeating UNI 41-3.

Quarterback Mark Gronowski led the Jackrabbits with 223 yards and 3 touchdowns through the air. Over the last three weeks, SDSU has outscored their opponents 106-6.

SDSU is at home this week for HOBO Day, hosting Youngstown State on Saturday afternoon.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers improved to 5-1 on Saturday, defeating Rutgers 14-7 in Lincoln.

Dante Dowdell (Dow-Dell) led the Husker offense with 57 yards rushing and 1 touchdown. The Husker defense held Rutgers to 2 for 14 on 3rd down conversions

Nebraska is on the road on Saturday to take on the #18-ranked Indiana Hoosiers.
