Yankton Bucks Football improved to 6-2 last Friday night, defeating the Tea Area Titans 28-7.

Quarterback Easton Nelson recorded 4 TDs in the win, 1 on the ground and 3 more through the air, including a 55-yard touchdown to wide receiver Connor Slaba.

Yankton is currently the #1 seed in Class 11-AA heading into the final week of the regular season. The Bucks will return to action on Thursday, at home against Mitchell.

Mount Marty Volleyball was on the road in Forest City, Iowa this weekend, where they fell 3-0 to Waldorf.

Caitlin Guenther led the Lancers in kills with 8 and blocks with 2 in the loss. Tevan Erickson posted a match-high 20 assists for MMU.

The Lancers are on the road for their next match, as they will take on Concordia in Seward, Nebraska on Wednesday night. First serve is scheduled for 7:30 PM.

Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s Soccer were swept by the Morningside Mustangs on Saturday in a GPAC doubleheader.

The Lancer Men fell 5-0 to Morningside. The Lancers faced 12 shots from the Mustangs in the loss.

The Lancer Women were defeated 3-0 in their match. Brooklyn McNac recorded 11 saves in net for MMU.

The Lancers are back on the road on Wednesday for a GPAC doubleheader against Midland in Fremont, Nebraska.

Yankton Gazelles Volleyball returns home tonight to host the Beresford Watchdogs inside the Summit Activities Center.

This will be the fourth match in October for the Gazelles, and their final match before they hit the road for this weekend’s East/West Tournament.

First serve is scheduled for 7:00 PM this evening. Pre-match coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 6:30. Brayden Butler will be on the call.

The Class 11B, 9-AA, 9-A, and 9-B Playoffs have been set, with multiple area teams looking to start their journey to the DakotaDome.

The Avon Pirates are the #1 seed in Class 9-B, as they look to repeat as state champions. They will host Jones County in round one.

The Bon Homme Cavaliers enter as the #13 seed in Class 9-AA. They will be on the road in round one to take on #4 Hill City.

Gayville-Volin is the #14 seed in Class 9-A. They will travel to #3 Warner in the first round of the playoffs.

Irene-Wakonda is the #14 seed in Class 9-B. They will be on the road against Dell Rapids St. Mary’s in round one.

All opening-round games in all four classes are scheduled for October 24th.

The Class AA and A Boys and Girls State Soccer Championships were held in Yankton over the weekend, with four schools taking home state titles.

In Class AA Boys, Sioux Falls Lincoln repeated as champions, taking a 4-1 overtime victory over O’Gorman.

In Class AA Girls, Harrisburg captured their 3rd straight state championship, shutting out Rapid City Stevens 5-0.

In Class A Boys, Vermillion returned home with a state championship, as Ian Job scored the winning goal with just over a minute remaining to defeat James Valley Christian 3-2.

In Class A Girls, Sioux Falls Christian was crowned champions with a 1-0 win over Groton Area. Makinli Reitsma scored the deciding goal for the Chargers.

The South Dakota Coyotes picked up their first-ever road win over Youngstown State at Stambaugh Stadium on Saturday, defeating the Penguins 27-17.

The Coyotes fell behind 14-0 early on but would go on to outscore Youngstown 27-3 down the stretch. USD was led by Charles Pierre Jr, who rushed for a career-high 153 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The Coyotes are on the road next week to take on in-state rivals South Dakota State.

The South Dakota State Jackrabbits suffered their first FCS loss since December 18th of 2021 on Saturday, as they fell to North Dakota State 13-9. 

Quarterbacks Chase Mason and Mark Gronowski led the Jackrabbits in rushing with 157 combined yards. Mason was the lone Jackrabbit to find the endzone, scoring on a 62-yard run in the 2nd quarter.

SDSU returns home this Saturday to host in-state rivals South Dakota.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers were defeated by the #18 ranked Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday, 56-7.

Freshman Quarterback Dylan Raiola threw for 234 yards and 3 interceptions in the loss. Jacory Barney Jr’s 7-yard run was the only score of the day for the Huskers.

Nebraska, now 5-2 on the year, is on the road again this week to take on #4 ranked Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio.
