The Yankton County Commission is weighing the feasibility of adding a juvenile detention center in the county.
Yankton County Sheriff, Preston Crissey, says that part of the reason they’re considering the addition of a new facility is because Minnehaha County, which is where Yankton County currently sends its juveniles, is raising its daily rates at the beginning of the new year.
Crissey says that the addition would be onto the side of the jail.
Yankton County Commission Chair, John Marquardt, says that the plan would be to build a two-story structure.
The commission did not approve anything at Tuesday’s meeting, but agreed to continue the feasibility study.
