The Yankton Community Library Board of Trustees, local legislators, and community members gathered to discuss a proposed cut by Governor Kristi Noem to the state library’s budget.
Board of Trustee Member, Mary Pat Bierle, says that the proposed cut is just a small fraction of the state’s budget, but is over 60% of the state library’s budget.
Board of Trustees Member, Nathan Johnson, says that the cut could have a domino effect felt across the state.
State Senator Lauren Nelson and Representative Mike Stevens were also in attendance.
Stevens says that he would not approve the budget cut.
Nelson says that she disagrees with the cut, but wants to hear from the other side as well.
The proposed budget cut would see $1 million cut from the state library budget.
