Mount Marty Men’s Basketball fell to their in-state rivals Dakota Wesleyan on Saturday, 80-72.
Tash Lunday returned to the starting lineup with 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals, at least tying for the team lead in all categories. Sutton Arend followed with 18 points and 6 rebounds of his own.
The Lancers are off until next Saturday when they host Briar Cliff in Yankton.
Mount Marty Women’s Basketball were defeated by Dakota Wesyleyan in GPAC action over the weekend, 66-48.
Kaela Martinez led MMU in scoring with 15 points. Alexis Folkers added 12 points and 7 rebounds for the Lancers.
The Lancers are off until next Saturday when they host Briar Cliff in Yankton.
Yankton Gazelles Basketball lost to the Pierre Governors last Friday night, 75-34 in the state capital.
Eden Wolfgram and September Rauch combined for 29 points for the Gazelles. Wolfgram finished with 16, while Rauch had 13 for Yankton.
Next up for the Gazelles is a road matchup with Rapid City Stevens on Friday.
Mount Marty Softball is 1-3 to start the season after a weekend slate of games in Sioux Center, Iowa.
The Lancers shutout Peru State in game one 8-0. Seven different Lancers recorded an RBI in the win, led by a 2 for 3 game for Alussa Sosky.
The Lancers would lose their next three games, one to Midamerica Nazarene 5-2, and two to William Penn, 3-2 and 2-1.
The Lancers are back in Sioux Center on Friday to take on Minnesota Crookston and Dakota State.
Mount Marty Indoor Track and Field claimed ten event victories during their Last Chance Meet on Friday in Yankton.
The Lancer women claimed eight event titles. The 1600 meter relay team of Zelie Sorensen, Alexis Even, Ashinee George and Josey Wahlstrom placed first in their event. Even won the 60-meter dash, George won the 60-meter hurdles, Wahlstrom won the 600.
Also for the Lancers, Hilaria Rodriguez won the 200, Mya Zohner took 1st in the pole vault, and Paige Millikan won both the long jump and triple jump.
For the Lancer men, Luke Rettedal won the shot put, while Joseph Cross took 1st in the 3,000.
The Lancers are set to compete in the GPAC Indoor Championships this weekend in Mitchell.
Yankton Bucks Wrestling had a pair of top-4 finishers and placed 9th as a team at this past weekend’s Boys’ Wrestling Invitational in Yankton.
Over 200 wrestlers competed in the event. Bode Thurman led the Bucks, placing 3rd at 138 pounds, with Shayce Platt taking 4th at 157.
Next up for the Bucks is a tournament in Pierre on Saturday.
Yankton Gazelles Wrestling had three wrestlers earn spots on the podium during Friday’s Girls’ Wrestling Invitational in Yankton.
Chloe Caton placed 2nd at 100-pounds after forfeiting the championship match due to injury. Also for the Gazelles, Winry Yaggie was 4th at 145 and Alexis Brenden placed 5th at 120.
The Gazelles travel to Huron on Thursday for the ESD Conference Tournament at Huron Arena.
Yankton Bucks Hockey were swept over the weekend by the Rushmore Thunder, 7-1 on Saturday and 10-3 on Sunday.
Yankton is now 10-5 on the year, as they return home on Friday to host Mitchell at the Kiwanis 4-H Ice Center.
Yankton Bucks and Gazelles Bowling swept O’Gorman in their regular season finale on Friday.
The Bucks defeated the Knights 45-4. Parker Kisch led with a 259 high game and a 682 series. Christian Weier had a high game of 246 with a 675 series, while Ryan Turner ended with a 247 high and a 673 series.
The Gazelles took a 50-0 sweep in their matchup. Maci Weverstad rolled a 205 high game and 600 series to lead the team. Avery Turner posted the highest single game at 22 with a 541 series, and Cadynce Bonzer recorded a 205 high and a 531 series.
The Bucks end the season with a 12-1 record while the Gazelles are 11-2. Next up for both squads in the state competition next week in Yankton. The girls will compete on February 20th with the boys meet set for February 21st.
South Dakota Coyotes Men’s Basketball escaped Tulsa, Oklahoma with a narrow 75-74 win over Oral Roberts on Saturday.
Chase Forte hit a free throw to put the Coyotes up 1 with three seconds to play before a missed shot at the buzzer by Issac McBride gave USD the win.
Forte finished with a team-high 14 points and 8 rebounds. Paul Bruns added 11 points and 8 rebounds as well, along with 3 steals.
The Coyotes return home on Thursday to host Kansas City inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
South Dakota guard Grace Larkins set a new single game scoring record for the Summit League and the University of South Dakota on Saturday, posting 47 points in a 75-65 loss to North Dakota State.
Along with her 47 points, Larkins recorded 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and a block in the loss.
The Coyotes return home on Wednesday to host Kansas City inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
South Dakota State Women’s Basketball picked up their 11th straight win on Saturday, defeating Oral Roberts 89-71.
Three players combined for 61 of SDSU’s 89 points. Paige Meyer led with 23, followed by Brooklyn Meyer with 20 and Haleigh Timmer with 18.
SDSU is now five games away from finishing the regular season undefeated in Summit League play. They’ll travel to Fargo on Wednesday for their next game against North Dakota State.
