Mount Marty University has announced the hiring of Kayla Harris as a new assistant coach for the Lancers Volleyball program.

Harris has coached at the club and high school level, most recently serving as the head coach at Vermillion High School. 

Before her coaching career, Harris was a three-year varsity starter at Morningside in Sioux Center, where she helped the Mustangs make the NAIA National Tournament in 2018 and 2019.

Harris joins the staff of second-year head coach Sophia Lobo Paes, who led the Lancers to a 12-15 record last season, the most wins in a single year since 2014 for the program.

Mount Marty Head Women’s Basketball Coach Alan Betram and University of South Dakota Head Football Coach Travis Johansen will be the featured guest speakers at today’s Yankton Quarterback Club meeting.

Bertram is in his third season in charge of the Lancer women’s basketball program. He holds a 23-58 record at MMU, including 10-15 this season.

Johansen was recently named the new head coach of the Coyotes following the retirement of Bob Nielsen. Johansen previously served as USD’s Defensive Coordinator since 2019.

A meal will be available to purchase at 11:15 at the River Rock Event Center with the meeting beginning at noon. The public is invited to attend.

Hartington-Newcastle boys’ and girls’ basketball split their doubleheader with Wausa last night in Hartington.

The Wildcats won the girls game 34-31. Maddie Steffen led the way for Hartington-Newcastle, scoring a game-high 13 points.

Wausa would win the boys game 53-47. Cole Rosener led the Wildcats with 12 points in the loss. 

The Wildcats will host Wynot on Friday in a boys’ and girls’ doubleheader beginning at 6:00 PM. Audio coverage on KYNTV begins at 5:45 with Scott Ulrich on the call.

South Dakota Coyotes Men’s Basketball returns home tomorrow night to host Kansas City inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.

USD is 15-10 on the year, currently riding a three-game win streak after last Saturday’s 75-74 win over Oral Roberts.

Tip-off from Vermillion is slated for 7:00 PM Thursday.

South Dakota Coyotes Women’s Basketball is back in action tonight, hosting the Kansas City ‘Roos in Vermillion.

The Coyotes are 10-15 this season coming off a pair of losses to Oral Roberts and North Dakota State last week. Kansas City defeated USD earlier this season 77-54.

Tip-off from Vermillion is set for 7:00 PM this evening.

South Dakota State Men’s Basketball hits the hardwood tomorrow night to host the Omaha Mavericks in Brookings.

SDSU is currently 16-9 this season coming off a 102-86 win over St. Thomas last Thursday. The Jackrabbits fell to the Mavericks when the two teams met in Omaha on January 11th, 87-80.

Tip-off from First Bank & Trust Arena is scheduled for 7:00 PM Thursday.

South Dakota State Women’s Basketball is on the road tonight, taking on North Dakota State in Fargo, North Dakota.

SDSU is a perfect 11-0 in Summit League play this season with only 5 games remaining. The Jackrabbits defeated the Bison 63-55 in Brookings when the two teams met earlier this season.

Tip-off from Fargo, ND is scheduled for 7:00 PM this evening.
