Local Sports 2/20/25

Mount Marty Women’s Basketball defeated the College of St. Mary last night, 71-55 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Alexus Motley led the Lancers with a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double. Sidney Thue added 13 points, 3 blocks, and 3 steals for the Lancers.

Mount Marty ends their regular season with a men’s and women’s home doubleheader on Saturday against Concordia.

Yankton Gazelles Basketball will be in action tonight, hosting Sioux Falls Christian inside the Summit Activities Center.

Tonight’s game was originally scheduled for earlier this week as part of a doubleheader, but was postponed due to weather. The boys will make up their half of the contest next week.

Tip-off from Yankton is scheduled for 7:00 PM. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 6:30. Bryce Ladwig will be on the call.

The Crofton Warriors advanced to the Sub-District C2-4 Girls’ Basketball finals last night with a 43-29 win over Norfolk Catholic.

Crofton was led by Sammie Allen who scored a game-high 15 points. Jaisie Jansen added 11 points and 8 rebounds.

Crofton is back in action tonight for the Sub-District Finals against Ord. Tip-off from Crofton is set for 6:00 PM, with pregame coverage on KYNTV beginning at 5:40. Brayden Butler will be on the call.

The Cedar Catholic Trojans are set to host Bloomfield tonight in the Sub-District D1-3 Girls’ Basketball Tournament finals.

The Trojans defeated Wausa on Tuesday 68-32 to qualify for the finals, while Bloomfield beat Hartington-Newcastle 44-38 to punch their ticket.

Tip-off from Hartington is set for 7:00 PM tonight. Pregame coverage on Riverfront Broadcasting Station 94.3 FM begins at 6:45. Tehl Tanner will be on the call.

Crofton-Bloomfield senior Rylie Arens took home 2nd place at 140 pounds at the Nebraska High School Girls’ Wrestling Class B State Championships.

Arens ended her high school career with a 13-7 loss to Battle Creek’s Taylor Ahlman in the championship match. Also making the podium for Crofton-Bloomfield were Annabelle Poppe, 3rd at 190, and Bethany Arens, 4th at 135. 

Elsewhere locally, Cedar Catholic’s Evelyn Freeman finished third at 110 pounds.

The Nebraska High School Boys’ Wrestling State Tournament begins today at the CHI Health Center and runs through Saturday with several area wrestlers scheduled to compete.

Cedar Catholic will have six wrestlers at the meet, led by Brady and Easton Hochstein who are both undefeated on the year. Also representing the Trojans will be Maverick Heine, Bodie Hochstein, Bradie Kleinschmit, and Grady Lammers.

Crofton-Bloomfield also had six wrestlers qualify for the event. Wyatt Tramp, Brock Jeannoutot, Braeden Guenther, Tyson Sanger, Owen Kuchar, and Ashton Nelson will all compete.

South Dakota Coyotes Men’s Basketball defeated St. Thomas last night, 85-80 inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.

Chase Forte dropped 30 points for the Coyotes, along with 9 rebound sand 3 steals. USD is now 13-2 this season when playing at home.

The Coyotes return to action on Saturday, taking on the Omaha Mavericks in Omaha.

South Dakota State Men’s Basketball were defeated at home for the first time this season last night, falling to North Dakota State 77-68.

Oscar Cluff and Joe Sayler tied for a team-high 14 points, with Cluff adding 10 rebounds as well.

SDSU is home on Sunday for Senior Night against Kansas City.

South Dakota Coyotes Women’s Basketball returns to the hardwood tonight, taking on the Omaha Mavericks in Omaha.

USD defeated the Mavericks when the two programs met in Vermillion on January 11th, 71-66. Grace Larkins posted 45 points for the Coyotes in that win.

Tip-off from Omaha is set for 7:00 PM tonight.
