Mount Marty Baseball split their GPAC doubleheader against Doane yesterday, winning game one 8-2 before losing 2-1 in game two.
Jalen Owens went 3 for 3 at the plate with 3 runs scored in game one. Slayder Watterson won on the mound, throwing a complete game and striking out 10 batters.
The Lancers were held to five hits as a team in game two. Ryan Bachman drove in Lucas Kampshoff for MMU’s lone run of the game. Palmer Jacobs pitched 8 innings in the loss, allowing 1 earned run.
The Lancers return home for their next slate of games, as they host Briar Cliff for a doubleheader on Saturday.
The Mount Marty Lancers were swept by Morningside Sunday afternoon in their GPAC doubleheader in Yankton.
The Lancers fell 3-1 in game one. Kayleen Jacinto went 1 for 2 with a run scored in the loss. Jayden Simpkins was credited with the RBI.
Game two ended 10-7 in favor of Morningside. Kayleen Jacinto went 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs in the loss. Ella Ray went 2 for 3 with a pair of runs.
The Lancers are on the road for their next games, taking on Briar Cliff in Sioux City, Iowa on Friday in a GPAC doubleheader.
Yankton Track and Field opens their 2025 campaign today with the Dan Lennon Invitational in Vermillion.
The University of South Dakota will host the invite. Events are scheduled to begin at 11:30 AM.
Yankton Bucks Hockey claimed a 5th-place finish at their first-ever state tournament on Saturday with a 7-4 win over Mitchell in the consolation final.
Jack Pedersen tallied 4 points in the win, scoring 2 goals and adding 2 assists. Luke Moeller recorded 31 saves in the win.
Yankton ends their season with a 17-8 overall record. The Rushmore Thunder were crowned state champions with a 7-0 win over Sioux Falls West in the finals.
The Wynot Blue Devils were defeated by O’Neil St. Mary’s in the Nebraska Boys Basketball Class D2 State Championship game on Saturday, 63-51.
The Blue Devils were led by Justin Heimes in the loss. Heimes posted a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double.
Wynot ends their season with a 21-8 overall record as the Class C2 Runners-Up.
The South Dakota High School Girls’ Basketball State Championships wrapped up on Saturday, with three state champions being crowned.
O’Gorman won the state title in Class AA with a narrow 47-46 win over Brandon Valley, Sioux Falls Christian claimed the Class A championship by a single point over Mahpiya Luta, 57-56, and Bennett County are the Class B champions after their 71-61 win over Sanborn Central/Woonsocket.

- #1 Sioux Falls Christian defeated #3 Mahpiya Luta 57-56 (Championship).

The South Dakota State Jackrabbits are the #10 seed in the Spokane 4 region of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament following their undefeated Summit League season.
The Jackrabbits enter the national tournament with a 29-3 record, having won 19 straight since December 22nd. All three of SDSU’s losses this season came to teams in the NCAA tournament, #9 seed Georgia Tech, #2 seed Duke, and #1 seed Texas.
SDSU will face #7 Oklahoma State in round one on Saturday, March 22nd at 2:30 PM.
