Yankton Track and Field boasted several top-6 finishes and had a school record broken at yesterday’s Dan Lennon Invitational in Vermillion.
Setting a new school record was Connor Slaba in the 60-meter, finishing his semifinal race with a time of 7.08 seconds. Slaba would finish 5th in the finals.
Also for the Bucks, Carson Ness finished 2nd in the boys 400, Cale Haselhosrt was 6th in the 60-meter hurdles, and the relay team of Ness, Slaba, Evan Serck, and Alex Swihart placed 2nd in the 800 and 1600-meter relays.
For the Gazelles, Quinn Brinkman placed 2nd in the high jump, Rozlyn Adamson placed 3rd in the 60-meter, followed by Burkely Olson in 5th. Adamson and Olson were joined by Josslyn Elwood and Auviana Seiler to take 3rd in the girls’ 800-meter relay.
Yankton Track and Field returns to action on March 28th for a meet hosted by Mount Marty University in Yankton.
Mount Marty University has hired Olympic medalist Aída Román as the new head coach of the Lancer archery program.
Román claimed a silver medal in the 2012 London Olympics for Women’s Individual Archery and was the 2014 Women’s Indoor Archery World Champion.
In her role, Román will lead the Lancer archery team, focusing on developing athletes’ skills, fostering teamwork, and promoting the sport within the university and the broader community.
Yankton Bucks Baseball opens up their 2025 season in six days, taking on Irene-Wakonda on Monday, March 24th.
The Bucks are coming off a 10-10 season in 2024, that saw them qualify for the state tournament. Yankton was eliminated by eventual state runners-up Harrisburg in the quarterfinals.
The first pitch of next week’s season opener is scheduled for 5:30 PM on Monday.
The South Dakota High School Boys’ Basketball State Championships begin on Thursday for Classes AA, A, and B,
This year’s Class AA tournament will be held at The Monument in Rapid City. The Class A tournament will be held at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, and the Class B tournament will once again take place at the Barnett Center in Aberdeen.
All three tournaments will run from Thursday through Saturday. First-round matchups for each tournament are available below.
