Mount Marty Baseball swept Mayville State in a non-conference doubleheader yesterday, outscoring the Comets 27-14 over two games.
The Lancers took game one 14-6. Jalen Owens went 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs, 4 runs, and a home run. Aidan Chang, Shugo Kondo, and Andrew Ramirez added 2 RBIs each.
Game two ended 13-8 for the Lancers. Will Gardner went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs for MMU. Logan Bobzin was credited with the win on the mound, allowing 0 hits in 1 inning of relief.
The Lancers resume GPAC play on Saturday, opening their four-game series against Concordia with a doubleheader at Riverside Field.
Mount Marty Softball has increased their win streak to seven straight after last night’s doubleheader sweep of Hastings.
Game one ended 3-2 in favor of the Lancers. Kayleen Jacinto went 3 for 4 at the plate, while Alyssa Sosky had a 2 RBI single in the 7th to put the Lancers on top.
Game two ended 15-7. Kayleen Jacinto went 3 for 3 in the win with 3 runs, 2 RBIs, and a home run. 9 of the Lancers’ 15 runs came in the 3rd inning.
Mount Marty returns to the diamond next Tuesday for a single game against Dakota State in Madison, SD.
Yankton Gazelles Softball travels to Pierre this afternoon for a Class AA matchup with the Governors.
Yankton is 1-1 on the year following a 17-2 win over Aberdeen Central on Monday. The Governors enter with a 0-1 record.
First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s tennis were swept 7-0 in both of their matchups with Morningside yesterday.
The Lancer men are now 5-6 on the year while the women are 3-9. Both Lancer squads will host Northwestern next Wednesday, April 16th.
Yankton Bucks Tennis returns to the courts tomorrow for a triangular hosted by Sioux Falls Jefferson.
Yankton will face Milbank at 1:00 PM and Jefferson at 3:00. Matches will be held at Sioux Falls Jefferson High School.
South Dakota Coyotes Men’s Basketball has added transfer Josiah Dotzler to their 2025-26 recruiting class.
Dotzler, a native of Omaha, Nebraska, joins the Coyotes after a season at St. Louis. Dotzler appeared in three games prior to an injury ending his year.
Prior to his time at St. Louis, Dotzler made 19 appearances for Creighton as a true freshman during their sweet sixteen run during the 2023-24 season.
Dotzler is the first transfer signing for USD of the 2025-26 class.
Four South Dakota Coyote Basketball athletes have been selected as Academic All-Summit League honorees.
Men’s basketball has three representatives. Paul Bruns and Max Burchill received the honor for the second straight year, while Isaac Bruns made the team for the first time.
Grace Larkins was the lone women’s basketball player on the list, earning her third Academic All-League honor.
To be eligible for the Academic all-Summit League team, athletes must hold a 3.3 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) and compete in 50% or more of their team’s competitions.
